The Planetary Health Philippines (PH2), together with the Planetary and Global Health Program (PGHP) of the St. Luke’s Medical Center College of Medicine – William H. Quasha Memorial, is launching a new webinar series showcasing issues and innovations in Planetary Health in the Philippines.
The first installment of the PH2 Webinar Series – entitled, “The Climate Crisis and Mental Health: How Can We Take Action?” – will be held on March 1, Wednesday, 5:00 – 6:00 PM PST. The event aims to link how climate change is affecting people’s mental health, discuss ways of coping, and identify ways forward towards climate action. Last year, the IPCC Report (2022) highlighted that the rapidly worsening climate change poses a rising threat to mental health and psychosocial well-being – from emotional distress to anxiety, depression, grief, and suicidal behavior. In the Philippines, mental health consequences of the climate crisis are experienced annually based on a recent study.
This online event will feature Dr. John Jamir Benzon Aruta, Assistant Professorial Lecturer at the De La Salle University – Manila and a pioneering environmental psychologist in the field of climate change and mental health in the country.
